Size:2-growth Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, what country’s orchid breeding is fairest of them all? Is it the Japanese, they who strive for botanic perfection? Or the Dutch flower masters who will crown my collection? Actually, the answer is easy: the Japanese by a country mile. While no one beats the Dutch at industrial scale flower production, no country obsesses (and spends) more on orchids than the Japanese. Still, the Dutch are no slouches when it comes to producing horticulatural excellence, and this particular Cymbidium hybrid, ‘Zabala’, serves as a fine example. While this crop still has a couple of years to go before it starts blooming en masse, one (and the only) early bloomer opened two large green flowers, adding some needed balance to the Cymbidium color palette (which is dominated by yellows)! This is an easy to grow orchid that will add some beauty and balance to any collection of Cymbidium orchids!
